Orvis Helios Fly Rods
Founded in 1856 as a small bamboo fly rod shop in Manchester, Vermont, Orvis is now one of the world’s biggest brand names in fly fishing and boasts a well-established reputation of quality and performance. Their industry leading fly rods and other products have recently been re-introduced to Australia by the team at Compleat Flyfisher in Melbourne.
The Orvis Helios range of fly rods represents the latest in fly rod technology. By replacing industry standard epoxy resins with thermoplastic, thermoset resins, and fibreglass scrims with carbon-fibre scrims, the Orvis designers were able to make significant, simultaneous leaps in weight reduction as well as durability. The end result is the Orvis Helios. The lightest fly rod in the world and the strongest rod they have ever produced.
These rods are truly revolutionary. Almost all Orvis Helios users experience a distance gain of around 10 to 20 feet and increased accuracy. A 5-weight feels like a 3-weight and a 10-weight feels like an 8-weight. Say goodbye to arm fatigue after a long day’s fishing, and deliver the fly with pin-point accuracy.
The Helios is presently offered in a large range of line weights and lengths and are available in either a Mid Flex or Tip Flex. The Tip Flex models throw a tight loop and have the power required for casting larger flies and fast presentations while the Mid Flex rods suit a more relaxed casting style and lend themselves to careful presentations.
Starting at $899.95, all Helios models are configured as 4-piece and come with a beautiful woven graphite reel- seat, translucent olive finish, REC recoil guides that flex with the rod and resist breakage, and a matching, woven graphite rod tube.
