G3 Guide Vest

Simms is a brand renowned for producing high quality and functional fly-fishing products, and the new G3 Guide Vest is no exception. If like me, you like to fish long hours, tackle many different types of water and carry far too many flies and other gear, then this practical modern design is the vest for you.

The G3 Vest is lightweight, comfortable and constructed from water resistant and breathable Dupont fabric. Shoulders feature contoured spacer net for ventilation and have plenty of padding for those long days on the water. It is available in two colours, Simms Orange and Taupo. The Vest I originally tested was the Simms Orange colour. While this colour looks great and would probably be fine in most fishing situations, I prefer the Taupo (green). This colour is better suited for clear water sight fishing or when chasing spooky, well educated fish.

The G3 Vest has huge storage capabilities, 22 pockets in total. These include four large patent pending moulded foam pockets (foam shell lets you fill the pockets to the extreme, without affecting the carrying capacity of outside pockets), with three large pockets on the back including two ideal for carrying spare reels or lage spools of tippet material. The vest has large internal mesh pockets suitable for storing things like polaroids, and six other medium sized pockets on the outside for other tackle storage along with many more small pockets perfect for things like torches.

The G3 Vest is relatively short in length to allow deep wading, and other features include a handy rod holder to give your arms a rest on the long walk home at the end of the day, two retractors for holding clippers and forceps, a floatant cap, a magnetic patch to hold tools out of the way, internal key clip for safe storage of car keys, and magnetic buckle and zipper closures which even has a whistle zipper pull, in case you get lost or want to get your mates attention to show off your big fish!

The G3 Vest, like all other Simms products, features high-quality construction and stylish looks but most importantly is a practical design which works very well. The Vest retails for under $340.00 and should give many years of quality use.
