Dedicated fishing and travel bags are a precious commodity these days; it seems there are plenty of items that could possibly do the job, but few do it well. We fly fishers are a fairly demanding lot. We want bags to carry precious items with us on the plane, bags to load full of reels, flies and accessories that we take out in the boat, and bags to keep every concievable fly-tying item in its place. Believe it or not, the guys at G.Loomis have come up with the goods. In their line-up, Loomis is offering four models including a Fly-Tying Bag that has compartments for everything you require to tie flies, including a reinforced lower area to store the heavy bases of most quality vices—this bag measures 43 x 15 x 25 cm. Then there’s the Gear Bag that complies with airline carry-on requirements and is perfect for all the gear you might need as a day bag on the boat—it measures 46 x 25 x 28 cm. Next up is their Rolling Duffle Bag that uses heavy duty inline skate wheels and a solid extendable handle. It has numerous small and medium zipped areas on top of the bag as well as plenty of storage within for all the necessities. It measures 74 x 33 x 38 cm. Last of all is my favourite, the Rolling Cargo Bag. Oh yeah, this is the one you want when you can’t help but pack everything you could possibly need for a trip away. It measures a whopping 92 x 41 x 38 cm and of course features the same roller and handle system as its smaller brother. What I absolutely love about this bag is the three rod tubes that are built into the bottom. What makes these tubes even better is that they have zippered access on the outside, so if you arrive somewhere and want to go for a quick fish, you don’t need to tear everything out of your bag to get to the rods. I can fit two fly rods per tube, so there’s room for six, and if I need more, I just lay them inside. I no longer have to wait around in gate lounges with my hands full of travel tubes. The Rolling Cargo also includes a wet/dry inner bag that would be ideal for storing wet wading boots from the day before you fly out. The Rolling Cargo is in fact so big that I can even fit my Pelican camera case inside along with clothes and fishing gear! The Rolling Cargo and Rolling Duffle both feature a super-strong exterior bolstered frame, and all the bags are made from the best 1200 Denier water-resistant material. All the bags use oversized, self repairing zips, and all joins are box stitched and bar tacked for strength. Thanks to Loomis I am now fully kitted with special-purpose travel bags for every occasion. Enquiries to EJ Todd, phone 02 9533 7700. www.ejtodd.com.au |
