LEE WULFF DVDs
Andrew Connell takes a trip down memory lane with the great Lee Wulff.

I always had a dream—yes the same dream everyone else has—that I would win Tattslotto. However, that was only the first part of the dream; after winning I would buy a float plane and go fishing in remote locales and catch wild trout the likes of which no one had ever seen before.

Unfortunately a little known man by the name of Lee Wulff did this before I was even born . . . Royal Wulff Products have released a 2-disc set titled Lee Wulff Master Collection – Classic Films from America’s Pioneer Angler featuring everything from giant tuna in a small boat to beautiful big brook trout in Labrador.

The saltwater content includes exhilarating game fishing with fly and light conventional tackle for tuna, marlin and sailfish, most often in boats of the size many of us own. Lee catches a 148 lb striped marlin from a 15-ft skiff in Salinas Ecuador; also a 650 lb bluefin from a 16-ft Boston Whaler in Notre Dame Bay, Newfoundland. There is also some fantastic tarpon footage that you are going to love.

The salmon and trout fishing is brilliant. It amazes me that we don’t hear more about the talent of this angler in playing out large fish on a small, light (for its time) cane rod. This provided a great lesson in rod control and subduing fish. At one stage Lee has a triple hook-up totalling 17 lb. Lee and Joan also take us salmon fishing in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

This will be a great trip down memory lane for some, and footage that needs to be seen to be believed for others. The discs contain 14 short films of around half an hour each with some amazing footage shot on 16 mm film—there are under-water sequences to rival modern productions.
