Put together by Kent Fraser and Adam Clancy, the DVD is a companion to the book of the same name. The book and DVD can be purchased separately, or together as an attractive package, which includes a selection of flies and a bonus soundtrack music-CD. The footage is a mix of fly fishing and travelling, with lots of incidental shots of New Zealand life, activities and nature. It really is a good insight into what to expect if you’ve never been to New Zealand, and it will definitely get you excited about going. At three hours duration, it makes the DVD good value at its RRP of $34.50. It also makes it a bit too long to sit and watch in one session, but having one location per chapter means you can watch a couple of segments, and come back for the next one later. While the general production quality is of a high standard, some of the fish playing and landing sequences are a bit prolonged, and could have been edited more heavily, but generally the shots flow well, and keep your interest. There are some moments of humour in there too, one memorable one involving an electric fence, and there’s always Kent’s unconventional casting action! I’m sure that this DVD, with its zoom-ins on maps and suggestions on flies and set-ups, would be a great tempter and resource for anyone considering travelling to New Zealand for the first time, or for regulars or locals wanting to explore new ground. The DVD is available from the FlyLife online store, www.flylife.com.au, or check out www.intrepidangler.com for more details about the book, DVD and packages. |
